Can helmets protect your head against concussions?
Helmets are considered to be the best form of head protection to reduce the occurrence of skull fracture and brain trauma during head collisions. Head trauma and concussions in sports, however, still continue to occur even with the mandatory wearing of helmets. Researchers argue that current helmet testing standards are limited to assess whether a helmet passes or fails. This presentation will discuss technological tools and research studies we are conducting in relation to this issue, which can have implications on helmet design and testing standards to minimize head injuries.
