November 10, 2017 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm

NeuRIG (Neuroscience Research Interest Group) at Lakehead University will be hosting a presentation and discussion on understanding mental health through science and art.

The presentation, titled Art at the Intersection, will discuss selected literature on anxiety, and feature a talk given by local painter Emilee De Sommer-Dennis on using her experiences and understanding of science to inform her art.

DATE: Friday, Nov. 10
TIME: 4:30 – 5:30 pm
LOCATION: ATAC 1006

Open admission! Everyone is welcome to attend.

One-third of the population experiences an anxiety disorder during their lifetime. We’re slowly getting better at talking about it.

This lecture serves as an introduction to the neural underpinnings of chronic anxiety, and talks about how an understanding of the science can impact someone’s personal experience. Emilee De Sommer-Dennis, an HBFA and painter who studied at Lakehead University, shares her search for answers and shows how grounding her work in the scientific literature allows her to communicate her experience to the world.

This event is part of NeuRIG’s Talks on the Basics of Neuroscience and is open to everyone, including high school students and community members, with the goal of making neuroscience widely accessible to all.

This is a great opportunity to find out more about NeuRIG and its activities. NeuRIG welcomes new members at any time.
