NeuRIG’s mission is to promote neuroscience and its accessibility to everyone. We have three main objectives:

Promote neuroscience to the community through outreach activities such as high school knowledge sessions and Research & Innovation Day

Promote the development of specialized undergraduate and graduate degrees in Neuroscience integrated with relevant, degree-conferring programs throughout Lakehead University

Provide a forum for active interaction and professional development among students and researchers across disciplines and institutions through collaborative research projects, and research meetings and discussions

PRESIDENT – Alex is currently in her fourth year of Biology with a concentration of Neuroscience. Alex has been attending NeuRIG lectures since high school and has previously filled the role of treasurer. Her current research is focussed on Androgen Receptor expression during C2C12 skeletal muscle cell line differentiation. Additionally, she is interested in neurobiologic processes in drug reward and addiction.

SECRETARY – Cameo is currently pursuing an HBSc in Bioinformatics. Cameo has been a research assistant at Lakehead’s Sensory Neuroscience and Perception Lab for the past two years. More recently, she has also been interested in the bioinformatics applications for analyzing genomic data and for drug discovery. She hopes our club can allow you to learn about and enjoy the fascinating field of neuroscience!

SOCIAL MEDIA COORDINATOR – Liam has been a part of NeuRIG Executive team for a few years, previously filling roles, such as High School Outreach Coordinator. Liam is finishing his Honours Thesis which is the final part of his specialized HBSc Psychology program at Lakehead University. Liam’s research interests consist of evolutionary psychology, visual and emotional neuroscience, neuropsychological dysfunction, and neuroendocrinology. Liam loves the outdoors, his pupper Luna, playing music and learning about the brain!

TREASURER – Aaron has years of experience as a NeuRIG Executive and with other executive positions throughout the psychology department, most recently as Treasurer/Fundraiser Coordinator. Aaron graduated from the Specialized HBSc in Psychology (minor biology) at Lakehead University and has just started his first year of the MSc Psychological Science program. Aaron’s research interests cover many areas, including personality psychology, social psychology, and sensory neuroscience and perception. Aaron enjoys bowling, his wiener dog, meeting new people, and networking throughout the psychology department.

MEMBER AT LARGE – Camryn is currently enrolled in her third year of Applied Life Sciences. Camryn’s research interest is based on molecules, called arenes, that can penetrate the blood-brain barrier with Dr. Albert.

EVENTS COORDINATOR – Doris’ research interests include neuropsychology, cognitive science, and ethology. Doris’ HBSc thesis investigated temporal perception and working memory. She is currently working on several studies in the Cognitive Acquisition Lab as well as the Sensory Neuroscience and Perception Lab – Centre for Biological Timing & Cognition.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH COORDINATOR – Carolyn graduated from Lakehead with an Honours Bachelor of Biology with a Concentration in Neuroscience. She is currently working at Lifelabs while completing another year at Lakehead. Her research interests include both biological and psychological aspects of the brain. Why people may act the way they do with deeper interest in internal psychological meaning. Her hobbies include synchronized swimming, travelling, volunteering, going to the local farmers market and spending time with her dog Willow.
